GasanMamo Insurance have renewed their sponsorship agreement with the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) for another three years. This sponsorship for youth rugby is the second three-year agreement with MRFU after the previous deal expired recently.
The MRFU's youth rugby programme comprises a competition between teams from Alligators, Sharks, Kavallieri, Falcons and Stompers. Matches are played regularly at Marsa on weekends.
The programme also covers Touch Rugby and Tag Rugby tournaments for schools, played at Marsa and the St Aloysius College ground.
"At GasanMamo Insurance, we believe in helping youth develop through sports. We have supported the MRFU for the past three years during which we witnessed the introduction of rugby to young children in Malta," Julian J. Mamo, director at GasanMamo Insurance, said.
"Rugby has now become more popular among Maltese children but we are committed to make it a mainstream sport here. The extension of this agreement should help us achieve this goal."
Touch rugby is a fast-moving, minimal contact, evasive game that is played throughout the world by children of all ages and skill levels. This simple and exciting game promotes the fundamental skills of running, handling, evasion and support play, while developing basic principles of attack and defence, without fear of getting hurt.
Tag rugby is suitable for boys and girls and played between teams of eight players within a 40m x 25m area.
MRFU president Martin Galea thanked GasanMamo for their support, pointing out that the new sponsorship allows the MRFU to reinforce its strategy to improve awareness of the game and the standard of its players.
