A man who punched a teacher in the face was this morning given a two year jail term suspended for four.

The man, 26-year-old Don Axiaq, attacked teacher Andrew Cauchi at the Naxxar boy’s secondary school after his partner’s son told him that Mr Cauchi would snap his neck.

Before punching Mr Cauchi, Mr Axiaq told him "I will show you whose neck you'll snap", the teacher testified.

He said that on the previous day the boy had kicked a ball in his direction hitting him on the leg, on which he had sometime before undergone surgery. It was at this point that he remarked that he would snap the boy’s neck because of the pain he had caused him.

After taking into consideration that Mr Axiaq was a first time offender, his admission to the charges and the cooperation given to the police, Magistrate Antonio Mizzi jailed Mr Axiaq for two years suspended for four.
