Nine of the 11 Maltese trapped in Thailand after anti-government protesters blocked the airport at Bangkok have arrived in Malta, the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry said that the other two, together with their Thai wives, were on their way while a Maltese with whom contact had not yet been made was in Jakarta and would be returning to Malta next week.

Foreign Minister Tonio Borg said that the situation in Bangkok remained confusing although the airports were returning to normal. He thanked Malta’s consul in Thailand, Niphan Benjavilas, and protocol employees for their assistance to the Maltese in Thailand in the past days.
