Gzira kiosk owners insist they had license to operate

The owners of a kiosk removed by the Lands' Department last month claimed this morning that the kiosk, at The Strand in Gzira, had been a permanent fixture since 1987 and had the necessary license.

Manwel and Doris Spiteri told the court that since the kiosk was removed on November 28, they have been left without an income.

In an official letter filed yesterday the couple claimed that because of their licence they were being denied social assistance.

They called on thedirector of lands and the director of social security to act according to law and provide another site or renew the old. They also called on the directors to compensate them for the lost revenue and social assistance they have not received.
