Paola's deputy mayor was slightly injured yesterday when he was assaulted by the relative of a woman he had reprimanded because her dog was dirtying the pavements. Alfred Borg said the woman was nice to him when he told her the dog should not be allowed to litter the pavement. However, about an hour later, one of her relatives approached him and punched him in the face, breaking his spectacles. The Paola council, the Local Councils Association, the Nationalist Party and the Labour Party, among others, condemned the attack and expressed their solidarity with Mr Borg.
