OPM confirms agreement on Data Protection Commissioner nomination
The Office of the Prime Minister said this afternoon that now that the Opposition had agreed to a suggestion by the Prime Minister on the person who should be invited to serve as Data Protection Commissioner, Dr Gonzi would be meeting the person involved to offer the post.
The OPM said that Dr Gonzi had not spoken to the person he proposed prior to the opposition expressed its agreement. Now that this agreement had been forthcoming, Dr Gonzi would offer the appointment in the coming days.
Labour leader Joseph Muscat this morning announced his agreement on the person proposed by the Prime Minister and said he had already written to him about an e-mail sent by PN general secretary Paul Borg Olivier (see separate story).

When you write to the Data Commissioner you are writing to the Commissioner qua Commissioner, not personally to the person occupying the post.

So the opposition leader has already written to the new data commissioner who, i believe is still unaware of the nomination since the PM is still to meet the nominated person and offer him the post!!!
