4,937 senior citizens victims of crime
There were 4,937 senior citizens who fell victim to crime between January 1, 2006, and October 31, 2008, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici told Carmelo Abela (PL) in reply to a parliamentary question. He could not tell how many criminals had been apprehended or what sentences had been handed down to them because such records were not computerised.

How can a Government minister get away with such a silly excuse ? So the data is not computerised is it ? Well, why not may I ask ? Is the welfare of the elderly not a priority for this government ? Wake up my dears.. one day we shall all be old.. that is unless we die of stress first !

I wonder how such figures are kept hidden under the carpet.

The number is staggering: almost 5,000 senior citizens were the unfortunate victims of crime in just 2 years! The nagging thought is that most probably the overwhelming majority of these crimes were committed by drug addicts to sustain their profligate habit.
Now isn't it about time that this subject is treated in the same manner - media-wise - as that which was afforded to the "poor victims of drugs"? Have we just inured ourselves to the suffering of this frail strata of our society? Why don't we hear more protests about this subject? WHERE'S EVERYBODY?
