Ministry assists 11 Maltese in Thailand

The Foreign Ministry said this afternoon that it is assisting 11 Maltese nationals trapped after anti-government protesters blocked the airport at Bangkok, Thailand - two more than advised two days ago.

The ministry said that arrangements for alternative flights had been made for all of them except two Maltese married to Thai women and another Maltese who had not yet been contacted.

The ministry said efforts to make arrangements for the two couples were continuing, while the other Maltese did not appear to be in the Bangkok area.

Meanwhile it was reported earlier today that the occupation of the airport had now ended and the first international flights will be operated to Bangkok tomorrow. However clearing the backlog of passengers could take some time.
