Minister accused of playing with words
The Labour Party said yesterday Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt on Monday confirmed he was playing with words when he told Parliament last year the government was not committed to make the people pay a sewage tax.
The Labour Party said Dr Gatt was justifying the play on words by saying that the government planned to introduce a tariff and not a tax. At the end of the day, whether it is a tariff or tax, the public must still pay, the party said.

Oh I did not know you are not resident in Malta. That explains your cavalier way of looking at things since you will not have to pay tax or tariff when the Hon. Gatt decides that this tax - or tariff - be introduced. What's the situation in Canada - do you have to pay for Drainage Utility?

@V. Grech. Sorry to disappoint you. Mr. Martinelli lives in Canada, so for him everything is rosy here. But the thing is, he doesn't want to come and live here in his Party's heaven.

@J. Martinelli
My Oxford Advanced Dictionary explains 'tariff' as 1. List of fixed charges...2. List of taxes on goods...3.Tax on a particular class of imported goods...
I have concluded that 'Tariffs' , simply put, are Taxes dressed up as something else by a number of subtle politicians who express themselves in roundabout manners - no doubt to try to deceive the feeble minded. One way or another dear Mr. Martinelli you and I will soon have to fork out money for our drainage systems. Even the most warped of reasoning cannot deny that basic fact. Regards.

Malta Labour Party a week ago - "Minister lied!"
Labour Party today - "Minister playing with words".
Labour Party tomorrow "Sorry we misunderstood?"
The bare truth is, the Labour Party still does not understand the difference between a TAX and a TARIFF ! Here we are not talking about the ordinary man in the street not understanding the difference. The ignorance (or misinformation) starts at the very top!
And they want to be trusted with running the country?
