Economic forces must put public first, Muscat insists
Governments must ensure that economic forces respect society and put the public first, Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat told a debate between socialist leaders at the European Socialists Party congress in Madrid.
Dr Muscat said it does not make sense to let the market rule with no government involvement and emphasised the need of direct contact with the people despite the ever-growing importance of modern broadcasting media.
The congress approved an electoral manifesto with 60 proposals, including the creation of 10 million jobs by 2020, new financial rules, minimum wages for EU member states and a fight against the trafficking of women and children.

From the article one is to understand that Joseph Muscat and the newly constitued PL are in favour of Illegal immigrants as long as they are males and of certain age.
If Joseph Muscat is truly against illegal immigration he should have insisted that the words women and children are struck out and instead the world Human inserted in place.

Governments should assist, encourage, incentivise market forces to the good of the nation and NOT to control the forces. I hope that Dr Muscat is not going to rewind the clock 30 years when state intervention was how Labour manipulated economic forces to put public first and then it came last. I hope he is talking about encouraging business to set up shop locally and not about deciding what goes on where.
It is a very dangerous statement from Dr Muscat because it is not clear. It sounds very much like State intervention! I hope that he meant assisting businesses to get the economy moving again and not imposing on businesses to dictate what the public should do.
