Man flushes wife's diamond necklace down a toilet
A 46-year-old man from Attard tore his wife’s diamond necklace from her neck and flushed it down a toilet, a court heard today.
Amadeo Balzan, 46, stands charged with slightly injuring his wife and stealing her €2,000 necklace.
Testifying, the wife said that during a domestic argument her husband had ripped the necklace from her neck, tore it in two pieces and flushed it down the toilet.
Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia told the court that Mr Balzan in a police statement confirmed the incident, saying he had acted in such a way because his wife had taunted him that the necklace had been given to her by a new partner. He also said in his statement that his wife had recovered the necklace from the toilet.
The incident happened last July.

Kindly note that the necklace was NOT in the community of acquests since it was a donation. Vide Art. 1320 (e) of the Civil Code :-)
In essence gifts received by one of the spouses during the marriage do not form part of the community.
It's reported that the guy tore it in two. At least he should have kept his half!
And if and when he was brought before the court, he could claim it was his half he threw away... ;-)
Now *that* would have made a great story! :-D
Thanks goodness we get such news once in a while. Bizarre stories like these are what add some colour to the everyday Red Green and Blue news.
It's not everyday that a husband tears his wife's necklace and throws it in the toilet. There's a lot to follow. The story has to be flushed out (sorry). It's a tale of Shakespearean proportions.
Let's have more of these news stories of what happens everyday in the life of the ordinary persons rather than the dull 'news bites' emanating the HQs of the PN/PL.
Remember the old adage: a dog bites man is no news, but a man bites dog is.
This incident has as much news value as the opening of a bakery...yawn... back to bed
I definately agree with you!
