29 cases of rape reported

A total 29 rape reports were received by the police in the first 11 months of this year.

Justice Minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici told Labour MP Helena Dalli in Parliament that the victims' ages varied from six to 60 years. One was a gang rape.

The police have arraigned 22 persons involved in 18 cases.

a harsh sentence could probably be a good deterrent...but the current reality is that rapists in Malta are being let off with a mere slap on the wrist (a fine, or suspended sentence...or a few months imprisonment if we're lucky).
...at this rate we may have reason to believe that the number of rape cases is certainly not going to drop anytime soon.

I end up feeling insulted every time i read an article about rape in Malta. the current system is primitive, degrading and certainly not helping to promote basic human rights.

Over 1 every two weeks. maybe a figure which, would not draw any attention to a large country, but Malta!!.
