€20m Golden Harvest bakery inaugurated
Golden Harvest today inaugurated the largest and most technologically advanced bakery in Malta after a €20 million investment.
The new plant, at San Gwann industrial estate, has a floor area of 14,500 sqr metres spread over four storeys.
The plant is highly energy efficient and is equipped with the latest environmental friendly technologies including a photovoltaic system which provides 40,000 Kw of energy per annum thereby reducing energy costs by 18 percent.
It also has a solar water heating system which supplies hot water throughout the building, a modern waste separation system and a large water reservoir. The water is purified through a reverse osmosis system and used as second class water.
All oven burners use LPG gas thereby reducing emissions and contributing to the company’s environmental policies.
The new building was designed and built in collaboration of a world-renowned Israeli bakery management consultancy firm.
The new plant was inaugurated by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi in the presence of Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and company chairman John Aquilina.

PV panels, water collection - surely the way of the future for industry (and households) + in the long term would make GH products more competitive due to energy efficiency and saving money on bills.....

Now that is serious social awareness and excellent meaningful public relations. Hope others will follow the example. Golden Harvest was always a top quality Maltese product that enjoys confidence and trust of consumers. Perhaps it is time in Malta to introduce 'Golden Maltese Brands' scheme awarded to local products of quality - a truly proud and selective 'Made in Malta' label.

There will always be demand for food whether there is a recession or not.
The demand may decrease during hard times, but people will still have to eat.

News like this gives the nation courage to face recession and fight it by working harder and be more productive.
What a far cry from the political moaners who just fill everyones hearts with dispair and anger...

Considering what the world is passing through this is good and encouraging news. This investments together with others of recent weeks go to show that there is still a climate of confidence in this island despite the many cassandras.

More good news regarding millions of euros of new investment. This is really encouraging particularly to those who might have some worries inview of the worldwide recession which, somehow or other will hit Malta too.
Congratulations to Golden Harvest
