Trial verdict expected tomorrow

A witness told the court this morning that in a fight outside Bamboo Club in Paceville on August 10, 2004, he had held someone by the arms while his friends kicked and punched the man.

Pierre Micallef, testifying in the trial by jury of 26-year-old Anthony Bartolo which today entered its second day, said he did not know who this man was.

Mr Bartolo stands charged with the attempted murder of Darryl Borg and Clint Mangion, of Birkirkara. The accused allegedly inflicted a long, deep wound in the neck of Mr Borg, his first victim and went on to slash Mr Mangion's neck. He is also charged with stabbing Mr Micallef.

The two victims allegedly injured by Mr Bartolo both testified that they did not know who had injured them and at first did not know the full extent of their injuries.

The verdict is expected tomorrow.
