Economic forces should put people first - Joseph Muscat
Governments had to ensure that economic forces respected society and put people first, Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat said during a debate between socialist leaders at the European Socialists Party congress in Madrid.
Dr Muscat said it no longer made sense to let the market rule with no government involvement whatsoever.
He emphasised the importance of direct contact with the people, in spite of the ever growing importance of modern broadcasting media and appealed for the message of socialist parties to be that they offered the best solutions.
The congress approved an electoral manifesto with 60 proposals. They include the creation of 10 million jobs by 2020, new financial rules, decent minimum wages for EU countries, and a fight against the trafficking of women and children.

@ Joe Vella - Can you at least be honest with yourself? This is not a propaganda website you know? First of all Socialism and Communism are two opposite ideologies. And secondly there were 3 other proposals in the same sentence from were you selected your part to criticise. What can you tell us about 10 Million Jobs? Probably you don't care since you have a job. What about decent minimum wages? Probably you don't care either because you are not on a minimum wage. But you are also too Blue to be taken seriously right?
the government has to intervene in the economy because capitalism doesn't reach everyone and we have very good examples of this issue. Socialism is good, it was just used badly in the past but that doesn't mean that we can't use it now in different ways from that of the past.
Or Could it be now that Joseph Muscat is ok with the trafficking of immigrants, as long as, they are all man. If not, why then he didn't insists that refernce to women and children be struck out and instead substituted with word "HUMAN.
Trafficking is trafficking being sexual or otherwise.
But dont worry, there man made system can only fail, and they know it.
