New TV channel launched

Favourite channel, the latest local channel in Melita's lineup, will start officially broadcasting regular programmes from the first week of January.

Currently broadcasting irregularly "to give viewers a taste of what's to come," Favourite is set to carry entertainment programming as well as current affairs, competing with the other main channels.

Speaking during the launch, Favourite chief executive officer Manuel Micallef said the channel will be broadcasting varied and diverse content such as talk shows, entertainment programmes, magazine shows, quiz shows and fitness shows.

Besides in-house productions and local productions, the station, independently owned by Bonaci Media Entertainment, has also obtained exclusive rights to air foreign productions. A number of Maltese personalities will host shows, Mr Micallef said, adding that the locally produced Ipokriti drama-soap will be also included among the regular programmes.

While two news bulletins daily will be broadcast initially, the channel will eventually also start providing hourly news updates.

He made it a point to specify that the channel is privately owned, with no political agenda, ties or affiliations.

I must say it would be great to have another station which I hope would not fall into the clutches of Melita. I just cannot understand why Melita do not include a proper English chanel my English wife just cannot cope anymore with all the repeats on BBC Prime and all the other so called English broadcasting stations. As a subcriber of Melita I am finding very diffucult to get myself to renew the package I have when it expires, in monetary terms Melita has got to be the worst value for money supplier. Yes Ms Hartmann behalf of my wife agreed.

Nice to hear a new channel is starting next year, however it would also be nice if Melita launch a channel in english for people like myself and ampteen more who cannot follow the maltese language channels, any feed backs apart from (learn the lingo) its not easy and as they say Rome wasen't built in a day especially for most of us over the age of 55.
