Promoting learning experiences

Miriam Soler will deliver a talk on 'Effective ways of inducing a learning experience' on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Room 216, Mathematics and Physics Building.

Italian language seminars

Prof. Paolo Poccetti from the Università di Roma Tor Vergata is delivering two seminars of interest to students of Italian, on Tuesday as follows:

• Un quadro linguistico dell'Italia preromana (at 9 a.m. in LC 120 );

• L'importanza dell'apporto delle lingue preromane alla storia del latino e alle origini dell'italiano e delle lingue romanze (at noon in GW 164).

History of Art lecture

Art lovers are invited to attend a public lecture by Dr Chris Fischer, keeper of prints and drawings at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, entitled 'Drawings by Preti and other artists working in Naples in the 17th century' on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the University's lecture hall LT1, organised by the Faculty of Arts' History of Art department.

Concert of sacred music

The University ensemble and the Valasci chamber ensemble from the Czech Republic will perform a concert of sacred music on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Cospicua parish church, organised by the Mediterranean Institute and the Chapter of Cospicua.

The concert, directed by Hans Jürgen Nagel, will feature works by Charles Camilleri, Salvatore Magrin and Antoni Dvorak.

M.Sc. seminar

The Faculty of Science's Department of Mathematics is organising an M.Sc. seminar on December 10 at 3 p.m. in room 405, Mathematics and Physics Building, during which Elaine Manicaro will discuss the Harary-Sachs theorem, Martha Borg, the index of a graph and Cheryl Zerafa the walks and main eigenvalues.

Lecture on Hospitalliers and Templars

Prof. Jonathan Riley-Smith will deliver a public lecture entitled 'Two Orders with Contrasting Personalities: The Hospital of St John and the Temple in the Holy Land, 1120-1291' on December 10 at 7 p.m. at the main hall of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise, Republic Street, Valletta, organised by the Department of History.

Prof. Smith is president of the Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East and was the Dixie Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Cambridge.
