I read with interest Roy Perry's letter (The Sunday Times, November 23) suggesting various improvements that can be made in the media to reach out to people with visual impairments.
To this end I would like to inform him and people living in or visiting the Maltese islands who are blind or visually impaired, that Palazzo Falson has introduced special tours of the museum specifically designed for people with these impairments.
These tours also include handling of some of the artefacts and are entirely free of charge.
They are held regularly but booking (by calling the museum) is required.
Moreover, Palazzo Falson recently organised a talk about Oriental carpets which was delivered by Victoria & Albert Museum specialist Jennifer Wearden. This talk was recorded by Campus FM (the University radio) and will be available for download as a podcast on both the radio's website and Palazzo Falson's website in the near future.
In this manner people who have mobility difficulties can participate, even if to a more limited extent, by listening to this and the scores of other lectures which Campus FM makes available.
