Arthur Demarco of Vittoriosa won the Youth of the Year award, which has been organised by the OASI Foundation for the past 16 years.

Mr Demarco was nominated for the award by Vittoriosa mayor John Boxall for his voluntary work in the city.

Mr Demarco was also singled out for his sense of responsibility and positive attitude towards youth.

Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono encouraged young people to continue to offer community service and never to give up on helping others even when faced by seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

The presentation was held at the Kempinski Hotel in San Lawrenz.

Nine young people, six from Malta and three from Gozo, qualified for the award. Fr Manuel Cordina, director-general of the OASI Foundation, spoke about the danger of promoting changes as reforms without the basic research of what our younger generations really need for their personal growth.
