Gozo Bishop Mario Grech said that Sunday was no longer appreciated as a day of rest but considered a waste of time.

He said that a study should be carried out on what needed to be done to encourage the community to gather on Sundays.

Speaking at the feast of Christ the King last Sunday, he told the congregation that productivity, consumerism and even technology were disrupting time's natural rhythm.

The celebration started with a Eucharistic procession from the chapel of Our Lady of Compassion on the outskirts of Xewkija and proceeded to Xewkija basilica.

At the basilica, prayers were said followed by hymns and a mime by young people from San Lawrenz.

Apostolic Nuncio Tommaso Caputo also took part in the celebration.
