School library awards

St Benedict's College Girls' Junior Lyceum of St Lucia has won the School Library of the Year award, while Emanuel Tanti, librarian at San Anton School, L-Imselliet, was named the School Librarian of the Year. The Girls' Secondary School of Tarxien, also part of St Benedict's College, received a special mention for its work with library helpers.

The awards were given at a recent annual seminar attended by over 100 librarians from state and non-state schools organised by the Schools Library Service (SLS) and the Malta School Library Association (MSLA) to mark International School Library Day.

The half-day seminar also included presentations by Joseph Boffa on school library collection development, by St Thomas More College's Girls' Junior Lyceum on best practice in school libraries, and by St Benedict College's Girls' Junior Lyceum and St Margaret's College Girls' Secondary School on their work with library helpers.

Concluding, MSLA chairman Patrick Decelis spoke about the importance of sharing, emulating and celebrating best practice of Maltese teacher-librarians.
