ILM qualifications by Misco

Misco is an official accredited centre for the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), part of City and Guilds, responsible for management qualifications worldwide. Managing employees effectively hold the key to business success. ILM qualifications provide managers with the skills to energise their organisations by engaging with staff and maximising their contribution.

The ILM Level 5 Award in Management, Certificate in Management and Diploma in Management are qualifications that have been specially designed to give aspiring middle managers a solid foundation in their formal development in this role.

The Award in Management is a concise qualification aimed at developing basic middle management skills and knowledge. The mandatory unit, 'Understanding the management role', examines organisational structure and function, the roles and responsibilities of middle managers and the effect of communication and interpersonal skills on managerial performance.

The Certificate in Management builds and broadens on the areas covered in the award. In this qualification 'managing improvement' is explored in terms of organisational and personal improvement. 'Developing the reflective manager' concentrates on the analysis of personal strengths and weakness and how to work through problems using creative techniques. The crucial skill of 'making a financial case' is also covered. This unit helps practising or potential middle managers to develop the knowledge and better understand the financial management.

The Diploma in Management develops a comprehensive range of basic middle management skills and assists participants in gaining the knowledge and skills required by practising or potential managers. The qualification builds on the award and certificate. The additional mandatory units cover 'critical thinking skills' to evaluate theory against reality. Leading innovation and change is the final mandatory unit which identifies the opportunities for development and explores the impact of organisational change on stakeholders.

Qualifications are flexible to suit every candidate's requirements and employers. They may be completed through a combination of tutor-led sessions, distance learning or online. Alternatively, candidates can opt for a full distance learning approach.

Participants are able to choose from a range of optional units to build their qualification. This high level of flexibility allows individuals or their employers to custom build a qualification that focuses on the key areas most relevant to their role, industry or organisation.

The award, certificate and diploma in management are vocational related qualifications accredited and listed on the European Framework for Lifelong Learning designed to suite the participants' specific experience.

With these programmes, MISCO are aiming to target people who have no formal management qualifications, people who have taken a different approach to the normal academic route but nevertheless have gained while working in industry a lot of valuable hands-on supervisory and managerial experience and now wish to gain an accredited qualification to formalise their experience while strengthening their CV/profile.

Well over half a million managers worldwide have improved their own performance and brought real benefits to their organisations, by taking ILM qualifications.
