Obituary

FORMOSA. On November 28, at Mater Dei Hospital, FRANCES, of Ħamrun, aged 90, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Elvia and Marie Louise and her husband Brian Cefai, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8.30 a.m. for St Cajetan parish church, Ħamrun, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Ħamrun, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Choral performance

The Collegium Musicum Choir and the University Vocal Ensemble directed by Dion Buhagiar and the University Chamber Orchestra directed by Hans Jurgen Nagel will be singing excerpts from George Frideric Handel's Messiah in aid of the Malta Hospice Movement.

The concert will be held at St John's Co-Cathedral, in Valletta on December 19 at 7.30 p.m.

Subsidised housing

Application forms and plans are now available for a new batch of 152 subsidised properties to be sold by the Housing Authority.

The 137 apartments and 15 maisonettes are situated in Birkirkara, Kirkop, Marsaxlokk, Mellieħa, Mġarr, Mrieħel, Mtarfa, Naxxar, Pembroke, Qawra, Tarxien, Żebbuġ, Żejtun, Żurrieq and Xewkija.

A three-bedroom unit is being sold for €91,786, a two-bedroom unit for €77,095 and a one-bedroom unit for €55,218. The price includes the 20 per cent government subsidy.

Applicants have to be over 21 years of age but over 18 if disabled or living in an institution. Single persons have to be over 28.

Applications and plans can be collected from the Housing Authority's offices in Malta and Gozo from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and noon until December 19. Representatives will be available to assist in completing the forms.

The forms will then be received at the same offices between January 5 and 16.

Best slogan

Maria Schranz has won the slogan competition for the Johnnie Walker Man of the Year with her entry Johnny Walker: Strides Of Excellence.

Ms Schranz, who submitted the winning slogan as part of her vote for Judge Giovanni Bonello, the as Johnnie Walker Man of the Year, has won an all-expenses paid trip and stay for two at the internationally-renowned Gleneagles luxury five-star spa hotel and golf resort in Scotland.

The competition was organised by M. Demajo (Wines and Spirits) Ltd, local distributors of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky.

Lecture on Preti drawings

A public lecture on Drawings By Preti And Other Artists Working In Naples In The 17th Century by Chris Fischer, Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, will be given on Wednesday at Lecture Hall LT1, University of Malta, Tal-Qroqq at 6 p.m. Art lovers are invited to attend.
