The Malta Communications Authority yesterday issued an official correction to the Communications Market Review for the period January to June 2008 it had issued in September.

It said the figures submitted by Vodafone related to the subscriber base for broadband (WiMAX) services were erroneous. In its correction, the MCA said that at the end of June, a total of 93,409 broadband connections were registered.

Just over half - 51.85 per cent - were cable connections, 45.96 per cent were DSL connections and the remaining 2.19 per cent were WiMAX connections.

At the end of June, approximately 87 per cent of DSL broadband subscribers and 64 per cent of cable broadband subscribers had a connection speed of more than or equal to 2Mbps, but less than 10Mbps.

The number of subscribers having a connection speed in excess of 10Mbps however reached 7,965, the MCA said, adding that this represented eight per cent of all registered broadband subscribers during that period.
