The people of Cottonera were capable of honouring the country and the recent success of the Senglea council, which won the EU’s Committee of the Regions Intercultural Dialogue Regional Championship Award 2008 should be recognised, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said this morning.
Speaking during a visit to the council, the Labour leader said that although the PL was currently going through a very busy week, he still felt the need to find time to acknowledge the council’s success.
Senglea won the award with a project which involved primary school and Junior Lyceum students as well as refugee children living in several open centres. Adults were also involved. The main focus of the project was a discussion between foreign residents in Senglea, Maltese professionals and adult refugees living in open centres.
Dr Muscat spoke on the environment saying the Labour Party had made safeguarding the environment one of its main priorities in changes to its statute.
Senglea’s success, he said, was proof that it was not fair for Cottonera to be solely associated with negative stories.
