Kiosk carried away
A kiosk in Gżira was yesterday uprooted by the Government Property Division.
The owner of Emmy's Kiosk, which had not been closed for a number of years, was served with an enforcement notice last week and was given three days to rectify his position. The division removed the kiosk assisted by Enemalta, the Water Services Corporation and the Public Works Department.

I used to believe that to be provided with utility services the applicant and the premises must have the necessary permits, but ever since the Government tried (unsuccessfully) to dislodge the Armier, San Tumas and other illegal occupants ( all that was needed was to disconnect the utilities, which it did not!!!!) my eyes were opened. I now believe that everything is possible if one has friends in right places or a lIttle political clout.
A Housing Authority ex-services villa at Luqa which is supposed to be empty pending the outcome of a court case was until recently being 'illegally occupied' but the occupanant still got Water and Electricity installed. So much for law enforcement.

"The division removed the kiosk assisted by Enemalta, the Water Services Corporation..."
Are we to assume that Enemalta and the Water Services Corporation gave the illegal kiosk owner water and electricity services?

And who is paying for all this, may I ask? Enforcement is certainly to be encouraged, but then the culprit is to pay ALL damages, and not the public in general, please.
