Joe Tanti (November 21) shot from the hip and stereotyped the social work profession in his short contribution regarding Baby P.

Fiasco it certainly was - although to refer to it as such is possibly an understatement - and the Haringey Social Services are to be held accountable.

But I find his conclusions totally unjustified.

I ask Mr Tanti to go online and read pages 2 and 3 of the Times 2 supplement of the London Times dated November 13 to get a better idea of the kind of work social workers are faced with in the inner cities of the United Kingdom.

Closer to home, I would refer him to the sterling work undertaken by social workers in the Child Protection Services at Aġenzija Appoġġ and the pressures they have to deal with on a daily basis.
