MOC director Kirill Micallef Stafrace recently attended the XXX FIMS World Congress of Sports Medicine in Barcelona.

Interesting topics covered during the congress included muscular injuries, tendinopathies, doping and sports nutrition. During the congress, the FIMS council of delegates was convened and Dr Micallef Stafrace took part as Malta's representative.

The rapid expansion of sports medicine across all continents was among the subjects discussed by the delegates. The 57 countries present at the council chose Rome as the city that will host the XXXII FIMS World Congress from among six bidding cities.

The Executive of the European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (EFSMA), of which Dr Micallef Stafrace is an elected member, also held an educational meeting to update its members on the 2009 Sports Medicine European Congress, to be held in Ankara, Turkey.

Dr Micallef Stafrace has been invited as a keynote lecturer for this congress.
