Warning on Bangkok flights

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is urging the public to confirm flights with their carrier or tour operator if planning to travel to Bangkok, Thailand.

A large number of anti-government demonstrators have taken over Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Newswires reported yesterday that a second airport in the capital was closed after protesters stormed the terminal.

Serirat Prasutanont, chief of Thailand Airport Authority, said the city's main domestic airport, Don Muang, was closed early yesterday as the authorities feared that protesters might harm passengers and planes.

He said authorities are considering using an air force base outside Bangkok and have alerted all airports nationwide to be ready to receive more diverted flights.
