justice and injustice. such a thing was done so we all say "ohhh look. the government IS taking action". but if so, why have all those chairs in sliema been put on the pavement once again, adn what about the comino deckchairs ej? its either for evryone or for no one.

Armier is only the tip of the iceberg; what about San Tumas? and the occupant of a Housing Authority ex-services villa at Luqa which should be vacant pending a court decision but who has somehow in the mean time not only obtained the keys to the premises (or broken in?) but is enjoying Water and Electricity Services. It would seem that some people are more equal than others. All it would take to shift all these occupants is to cut of the supply of W&E.

I agree with the statements by Joe Morana:

There should be no 'back tracking' or 'special case dispensation' on the illegal squatting at Armier.

The government department or any of its agencies, or any other Maltese authorities should never sanction any of the Armier squatters, or any other illegal public land encroachment abuse.

It would be self defeating , if after this 'clean-up' campaign the Government or any of its agencies/Authorities sanctions Armier sqautters or any other illegal public land encroachment abuse. This would seruously undermine Malta's Euoprean Union credentials turning it back to a babana republic.

It would be poilitically and socially obsecene if the Government or any of its agencies give the Armier sqautters the opportunitiy or even worse the preference to and in their bid for the re-development of the area.

I am confident that If, by any chance the Government aims and/or dares to obtain t the Armier sqautters' votes by such manouevers, it will most certainly loose many many more others' votes .

How can we take the selective clean up seriously, when on one side we have individual eye-sores cleaned up, and clusters of monumental shabiness ( like Armier) expediently on the fast track to rehabitilation? How about the kiosks at Ghadira, all set up after 1987,-some of them with barbed wire on their roofs;-do the owners have the right political connections?

I am very pleased to finally see something being done against all these Kiosks. Two ohers need to be removed from Ghar-id-Dud and the place will then be clean with a full spectacular view. I have also noticed that the Newspaper and Magazine box has been moved which I agree with, however, don't you think that this is now too close to the railings and in rough seas the position of the box wil be in a dangerous position. On to Font Ghadir Sliema. I still think that the Kiosk is still occupying too much space and the number of tables should be reduced as these have taken at least 3/4 of the pedestrians walking space. Last but not least, Giorgio's owner seems to be full of arrogance because it still has not removed the tables and chairs at the very front which by now should have disappeared in the real sense of the word.. If it were me I would go with a truck and remove these whether there are people sitting at the tables or not, as I think that this is simply arrogance on the owners part.

K Sultana & J Sammut FYI the Green Caravans in Ghadira pay a yearly rent to the Lands Dept, they also pay Water & Elec Bills and this year they had a new drainage system installed by the Govt.

Dear Mr Meli , I am confident that you realise that the kiosks at Ghar id- Dud, have been an eyesore for the last 40 years with or without the necessary lands permit. I am also confident that you realise that WE are 40 years too late. I have no qualms if these kiosks have legal tiltle to operate inaccroiadnc with the relevant MEPA regulations. However, regrettably, it is clearly evident that, your 'benjamini' selfishly and conveniently have for all tehse years never bothered to invest and upgrade their 'establishments' to complement and respect the pleasant Sliema pomenade. Why are you so keen to defend them ?

We all know that it was removed, now we have another family on the dole. Can any one state why it was removed, Was he without a permit, the notice said to regulate himself, what does that mean, to remove, or to apply for a licence. I was hoping the Gzira/Slima road will be turned in Chalets along extending in the sea. This way the shops can extend the business and have tables ouside, same sa by go days at ghar id dud.

But I don't think so, and in my opinion you are well mistaken, as these have been told do do an application so as to have a permanent kiosk as prroved by MEPA and the Government Property Division.

In fact I recall that they do have a pending application to make their kiosk permanent, just as was done with the bus stop kiosk that used to be at Fond Ghadir, Sliema, and later the owner was given a permit to do a fixed kiosk painted green. These three kiosk you mentioned at Ghar id Dud, should also receive the same treatment, but the only problem was that they would have maybe to be re-located in another area as indicated and approved by MEPA and Lands Department. If this is the case, why should they be removed when they have been there before the formation of the Panning Authority and now called MEPA. In my opinion these have been there for over 40 years, why do you want to remove them?

That is really good.
It would be better if buildings that were built between 1987 to 1991 to be brought down where there was no needed permission to build them were built in an illegal way.
That is how one can rectify wrong doings that were done in the past.
Of course the concerned authority should show no mercy in the area starting from Msida and ends in St.Julians.
Would they?

Well done again to the Government Property Diviison for removing this shabby abusive kiosk which used to uglyfy the Gzira front. Similar eyesores (kiosks) have for far too long uglified Ghar id- Dud Sliema. Keep up the good work.
