CMTU expresses disapproval at MUT statements
The Confederation of Malta Trade Unions expressed its disapproval at the public statements made by the President of the Malta Union of Teachers, particularly regarding the leadership of the CMTU.
The MUT said yesterday it had no confidence in the CMTU leadership.
The CMTU appealed to MUT officials to act within the parameters of the confederation's statute and express their views in a courteous and diplomatic manner.
CMTU, it said, was a democratic organisation where views of the various organisations were aired and discussed in a civil and courteous way and where common positions were established. It appealed to all organisations to discuss and collaborate saying that the future of the trade union movement wasin productive discussions and collaboration, built on credibility and solid preparation.
"The days when one resorted to scathing personal attacks are long over and done with," the CMTU said.

How can you have confidence in the CMTU when it does a u-turn without consulting its members?

Seems to me like the CMTU is in dire need of a better leader. How can a confederation of trade unions issue a public statement on a hot topic without first making sure it has the full approval of all its union members? We already have one Union publicly appeasing the Government on the increased tariffs (as was expected), but to have the CMTU president doing exactly the same, is beyond belief.

The CMTU decided to attack MUT and its President just because this Union together with other 10 Unions sought clarifications before agreeing. The CMTU decided to distance itself from most other Unions and agree blindly. People are asking whether CMTU minus MUT have an agenda!! MUT is interested in its members including pensioners, CMTU is interested in glory.

It is a real pity that a chance to have a united front by practically all trade unions has resulted in this. Wouldn't you all be doing us workers and the whole nation a favour if you wouldn't act like silly kids and resolve these issues in a civilized manner. Maybe just maybe then it can result in a Trade Unions Council or whatever unions decide to call it?
