MUT says government tariffs document 'not clear enough'
The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) said today that the latest government document on the utility tariffs was not clear enough to ensure that its members and pensioners would not be negatively affected.
In a statement issued hours after the document was welcomed by the CMTU and its affiliate the UHM, the MUT said its own position was shared by another nine unions.
The MUT, which is also affiliated to the CMTU, said it was never asked for its opinion by the confederation. In view of the fact that the CMTU had still gone ahead and welcomed the government proposals without consultation, the MUT said it had no confidence in the current CMTU leadership.

I just been listening to radio 101 and UHM was boasting that she made a succuss, so i sent an email quote How about host families , are they entiled to 1750 elec units per student. Funny none of the speakers gave any reply, this to show how well they were prepared to seek the interest of the people, I also asked how about the water tariffs did they change? Again no word. This is our Malta the blind leading the blind and we trust them to represent us. So far , a hint from T.Fenech water units are .15 or .16c per unit,

There is avery simplistic solution of the energy charges. It appears there are 20 Trade Unions 10 of them have not yet accepted the government offer, 10 others have accepted. So let us pay according to our affiliation to a Union, The ten in favour have no difficulty to pay their share or even more, the other half have not agreed, then their personal share should be lowered by one half and those accecpting the governmant proposal will not protest and would be ready to pay half the share of the members of the non accepting unions.
Everybody will be happy even the government. Pay according to your Union card. The UHM are prepared to make any sacrifice for the well being of the country. Isn't it so. UHM and other nine

Dear Sir if the 10 unions have done their homework of how much the original Govt tariffs would have cost us consumers and how much the tariffs would cost after the unions proposals and compare them with the Govt document they would have the answer by NOW. But hey if the 10 unions have some 'grudge' against the Govt they should not put foward the tariffs issue on the playingfield but should tackle 'The Grudge" on it's own merit.

I wonder how the unions could have possibly done the homework beforehand when the document was only handed out to them yesterday. Maybe they should hire a nostradamus in their ranks?
Apart from the MUT 10 other unions are showing concern... do you ever wonder why they never joined the CMTU?

Very well put Mr. Bencini. It is correct to say that the MUT members and ex-teachers (the pensioners )would be negatively affected by the new Water & Electricity tariffs.

If the MUT is "not understanding ' the government tariffs document it is because it has not done it's homework beforehand. It ithe MUT had done this it could have understood the document. About the CMTU issue it seems that the MUT is not towing the line of other CMTU unions and that has been for some time now. The MUT as should have done did not brought the "TUC issue' before the CMTU council but acted on it's own. If something has changed in the MUT it should LEAVE the CMTU.

Now matter what everybody including the unions say the importation bill for our oil has to be paid. There are only two way how this couldbe done. One direct payment which means that the user pays according to his /her consumption or else through subsidies by increasing direct taxes. The unions have to choose. We cannot have the cake and eat it.

MUT AND THE OTHER UNIONS ARE COMPLETELY RIGHT. THEY ARE REQUESTING SOME CLARIFICATIONS BEFORE THEY COMMIT THEMSELVES. THIS IS WHAT I CALL LEADERSHIP, RESPONSIBILITY AND UNBIASED ARGUMENTS. PROSIT

One thing is clear. No matter what they all agree between themselfs, in the end we will still see very hefty increases that nobody can afford at the moment. The government is milking us dry.

How can anyone be clear on the W/E tariff when the GOVERNMENT it self is confused and don't know what it's doing!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes I agree that both the UHM and CMTU were to quick to agree with the government.

It seems that both the UHM and the CMTU (minus MUT) have been very hasty to agree with the new proposals. Have they seen the small print in the document that has been published? Are they defending their members or the government?

The current mess is a pre-medidated way for the government to confuse people so that finally they impose what they want.
UHM has done really badly to agree with government before everything is clarified. How could anyone agree when nothing is clear?!!

Glad I am not the only one that is confused. Currently you can speak to 10 people and get ten different ideas about how the current charges are going to be raised and when they will start from. Enough is enough, can not someone make a decision, promulgate the details in clear layman's terms and stick to it so that we can do a household budget.
