Maltese Monopoly promises to beat the financial crisis

The first 5,000 boards of the Maltese version of the Monopoly game arrived in time for Christmas and will start being distributed to the 2,500 people who have pre-ordered it.
The popular game will immortalise Maltese people's habits on cards allowing players to buy popular localities, including Valletta and Mdina, and try their luck with customised Chance and Community cards.
The game is placing 22 familiar localities, including two in Gozo, on the table for make-believe property moguls to buy.
The board game was translated into Maltese by author Trevor Zahra.
Next month will see a number of events held in a number of localities, including a competition allowing people to win the game.
"We are proud to have created Malta's first board game and will keep making exciting offers and promotions to entice people to be part of this memorable experience and own a game," Sabrina Mulligan, the creator of the local game, said.

Just the game for Malta as it is representative of our country's Government situation.
Would I pay €60 for such a stupid pretending game?
NO WAY.

Are we forgetting that this is the first board maltese board game in history?
This isn't just about playing monopoly
It is about being proud to say that Monopoly Malta is OUR game, Malta's game.
And it's an investment, a game that will be passed on from generation to generation.
Let's stop knocking the price and realize what we have just accomplished.
And to conclude, can someone mention a single boardgame that is cheaper in Malta than abroad?
It's not about Monopoly, it's about the Maltese standard of living in general.

I got the impression that the Maltese version of this popular board game will be expensive. I could barely find any prices glowing in ads...
Malta Malta and Malta. We should consider our existence in a planet of our own...

I'd feel happier this Christmas to use the money in support of some unfortunate child dying of hunger than spending them on the local version of Monopoly. After all as most of you said, one can easily go for the cheaper version...it's the same game after all.

To think that there are people who are actually buying these localities! the hoi polloi must be content with pretending to be millionaires. As for me I have other more important things to think about than spending 60 euro on a stupid game.

You can just buy the old monopoly for £14 (even through ebay) and then put stickers with maltese villages on.
Let's not be ridiculous. €60 for a monopoly game. It should have been called "Get rich Quick. Malta"

On the 22nd May 2008 there was this
"Agreements to distribute the game, expected to be priced at about €50 (Lm21.47), in both Australia and the US, have been reached and Ms Mulligan said others covering Canada and the UK were being finalised."
Ofcourse cheeper for other countries not for us the maltese. Like the lastest budget. I think that the Maltese Goverment was going to subsidize this game for us and now not interested anymore.

€60 for a Monopoly game I already have?? What do they think I am?? Stupid???
I'll stick to Mayfair and Park Lane thank you very much! Maybe when they stick a reasonable price tag I'll exchange Coventry and Leicester for say Valletta and Floriana!

@ Slater
Because it's made in Malta my friend. Didn't you notice that here everything, every service is much more expensive than anywhere in the World. This may be due to the high salaries and high standard of living we have in Malta.
I was interested in buying this Monopoly version but €60 (Lm26) is too much I think.

Why is this selling for €60 when standard monopoly has a UK RRP price of £14.99 ?
