Ryanair celebrates with €10 tickets
Ryanair is celebrating a record growth in passengers to and from Malta last month by releasing one million seats to European destinations for €10 each in the coming three months.
The low cost airline yesterday announced that in October it carried more than 35,000 passengers to and from the island, registering a 60 per cent increase over October 2007. While the overall traffic at Malta's airport registered a fall of 6.1 per cent in the same period, Ryanair said its market share went up from seven per cent in October last year to 13 per cent last month.
To celebrate this "significant growth" Ryanair released a million seats for travel throughout Europe in December, January and February.
The €10 one-way fare includes taxes and charges.
Passengers are adviced to book their seats on www.ryanair.com before midnight on November 30 to travel to Bari, Pisa, Venice (Treviso), Barcelona (Girona), Stockholm (Skavsta), London (Luton) and Dublin.

Do you have shares in Air Malta or you been given a job with Air Malta just before an election in the old days ? I am far away from cheap but if i have a choice to fly for cheaper why should I not .

NO. I mean we are subsidizing Ryanair MORE than we are subsidizing AirMalta.
Luke Gatt
t's not. Do you think that high class tourists will go for cheap airlines?
It's better to have less tourists but of a higher quality than more tourists of a lesser quality as the impact on the general infrastructure will be less and the income will be more.
We want quality not quantity.

Mr Kaskun delivers a spate of hatred towards Air Malta without knowing ANY facts whatsoever. Can you understand that Ryanair (and any LCC to that effect) operates to Malta because IT IS SUBSIDISED by you and me? What free market are you talking about? If anything Air Malta subsidises GM. What about it's social obligations, carrying medical cases, carrying cargo and newspapers, operating unprofitable routes, linkikng Malta to the European major cities, carrying hundreds of extra employees...... Do you have any idea how much this costs Air Malta? Who is subsidising who??
The GM should not give subsidies to ANYONE period and we'll see how much longer LCCs will last.
BTW the list of Airport which Ryanair stoppped flying to continues to grow.. VCN, FUE, BPK......
MLA will be next when Ryanair come to ask for more money.

The only option to tourist effected by the financial crisis who would like to travel is to use a low cost airline
Also tourist who use low cost are not necessary CHEAP TOURIST as one might use a low cost to cut on his ticket and than uses the same money to spend during his stay in Malta so L.GALEA your reasoning is botched

We are already subsidizing Ryanair with OUR taxes.
Cheap airlines mean cheap tourists.
We want quality, not quantity.

I am tired of hearing that "Malta is special" and certain things only work out in other countries ... Why don't Maltese governments just concentrate on politics and let all companies operate freely (provided the activities they are proposing are legal) ?
Protecting "Air Malta" is a pathetic argument ... its a company like all the others and should be left to compete and not be protected by the almighty governments of Malta. Why does airmalta not try to expand its services ? if it fears competition a threat ... I am sure many Italians for instance would feel safer flying with Airmalta to go to other destinations outside Italy rather than travel with Alitalia which is not very reliable ... so perhaps there are other markets where it can thrive.
One question: what is this paranoia that certain destinations are not being offered to the low cost airlines ... eg Hahn in Germany ... this is 2 hours away from Frankfurt, 3 hours from Brussels, 4 hours from Paris .... and many German, Belgian, Luxembourgers and French who live much closer to this ariport may consider flying to Malta if Ryanair operates from this hub. Protecting airmalta ??

I'm hoping and waiting for the day Ryanair opts to start a direct service to/from Vienna/Bratislava and Malta. There is huge potential for such a service for a low-cost airline. What about it, Ryanair?

In view that German Wings has ceased operating to/from Malta, Ryanair should be encouraged to operate new routes to German cities.

Can Ryanair please give me back the €23 they took from me in departure tax from Malta? Booked in October for December and the tax ended 1st November.

Dublin is not included in this offer. Probably for the simple reason Ryanair don't have any 'competition' on this route.

Ryanair can bring the numbers. It would like to open a base in Malta, where it can focus on the eastern european airports, scandinavian, iberian, scotland, and possibly trapani.
This is a good opportunity that we no longer depend on the UK market where its over 35% of tourists.
Can someone answer me:
WHY CANT WE LOWER THE AIRPORTS LANDING FEES FOR ALL AIRLINES ?
IF RYANAIR OPERATE TWO AIRCRAFT...it will bring over 700,000 people to malta...this is all year round and not simply 4 months in summer.
RESULT: 2 MILLION TOURISTS PER YEAR...
any comments appreciated.
