Mr Speaker Louis Galea yesterday promised former Leader of the Opposition Alfred Sant that he would take the necessary steps with the chairman of the House Privileges Committee so that the prima facie breach of privilege complaint which he had raised last month against Communications Minister Austin Gatt be heard.
The Speaker said that the committee, presided over by the Leader of the House Tonio Borg, was made up of two members from each side. This would be the first case the committee would consider during this legislature which opened last May.
The complaint emanated when Dr Sant denied claims made by Dr Gatt in Parliament that he had information about the MITTS hacking inquiry and had tried to spin the story to a newspaper so as to mislead investigations.
During yesterday's sitting, Dr Sant asked if and when the case against Minister Gatt was going to be heard.
