UHM suspends industrial action by pharmacists

The UHM has suspended industrial action by pharmacists employed by the government after the Health Department informed it that it was prepared to discuss proposals for an agreement on working conditions.

The union had made its proposals last October and had been pressing the authorities for their counter proposals.

Union secretary Joseph Bonello said the union was insisting that the pharmacists be assimilated in their proper grades and their conditions needed to be improved.

The pharmacists had been directed not to answer the phone and to report an hour late for work. They were also due to start closing government pharmacies an hour early as from Wednesday.

@ J. Borg, Sir the answer to your question is simple, because the government and its authorities are bulldozing over everybody, and actually they don't care about anybody. Do you seriously think that unions order industrial action before they exhaust every other possible way? We are living in a developed and civil society where every worker has rights. Workers should not beg for what is rightfully theirs.

Why do we have to always resort to actions by unions, why doesn't one sit down round a table and discuss matters there rather then letting things escalate.
