Malta suffered their second defeat in the 2008-09 UEFA U-19 Championship (qualifying round) yesterday, going down 3-0 to the strong French team at the Centenary Stadium.

Yann M'Villa put France 1-0 up early on and Yacine Brahimi doubled their lead just before half-time. France wrapped up the points when Magaye Gueye scored their third goal on the hour.

In yesterday's other match, Connor Clifford hit the only goal to give Ireland a 1-0 win over Liechtenstein.

The tournament comes to a close on Wednesday. Malta, who lost 2-0 to Ireland in their opening match, will be looking to finish on a winning note when they take on Leichtenstein at the Centenary Stadium (kick-off 11 a.m.).

France and Ireland, both on maximum points after two matches, will play each other at the Hibs Ground, also at 11 a.m.
