The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) unveiled a new format for the World Cup during a two-day council meeting that began on Friday. The new structure for the IAAF's only international track and field team competition will be introduced at the next edition of the quadrennial World Cup being hosted in Split, Croatia in September 2010. The new format will consist of four continental teams representing Africa, the Americas, Australasia and Europe. There will be two athletes per team in each individual event and three athletes in the longer distance competitions.

Cricket

England bowler Ryan Sidebottom has been ruled out of today's fourth one-dayer against India with a back injury. The left-arm swing bowler underwent further scan on his lower back problem to determine the extent of his injury and the reports have been sent to the England and Wales Cricket Board, coach Peter Moores told a news conference. The tourists trail 3-0 in the seven-match series.

Basket, NBA

The New York Knicks offloaded Zach Randolph and Jamal Crawford in deals to clear salary-cap space for 2010 when the potent free-agent class of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh hits the market. Power forward Randolph, along with guard Mardy Collins, were traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas while guard Crawford was exchanged for Golden State Warriors forward Al Harrington.

2010 Torch Relay

The torch relay for the 2010 Winter Olympics will cover 45,000 km (29,250 miles), but stays entirely within host country Canada, organizers of the Vancouver Games said. The relay will be the longest domestic torch run in Olympic history. It will begin on Oct. 30, 2009, in Victoria, British Columbia, and pass through 1,000 communities as the Olympic Flame winds its way around the country back to Vancouver on the Pacific Coast on Feb. 12, 2010.
