The communications market review, published by the Malta Communications Authority (MCA) for January-June 2008, has confirmed that Melita's fixed-line telephony is continuing to grow steadily, week after week. Melita has now exceeded 50,000 fixed-line subscriptions since launching its service and is fast approaching the 55,000 mark.

The MCA market review shows a sharp increase of 7,918 fixed telephone lines for Melita during the period April-June 2008. On the contrary, a total of 6,158 users disconnected their fixed-line from GO's network. A total of 4,658 subscribers switched to Melita's cheapest fixed-line telephony without keeping their 21 number and an additional 1,500 users switched to Melita's fixed-line telephony, keeping their 21 number.

"Melita has been driving market growth in fixed-line subscriptions ever since launching its digital fixed-line telephony services in 2006, by offering the cheapest fixed-line call rate and an easy method to get rid of exorbitant monthly phone bills," commented Stephen Wright, Melita's chief operations officer.

Melita is experiencing overall growth across its various services. Recently, Melita has also announced that over 50,000 customers are subscribed to its super-fast cable broadband internet service. The MCA's market communications review confirmed Melita as the top local internet provider in Malta. Almost all new broadband subscriptions in the second quarter of 2008 opted for a cable broadband service as opposed to internet over telephone.

The review also confirms Melita as the leading provider for home entertainment.
