Malta welcomes Swedish approval of Lisbon Treaty
Foreign Minister Tonio Borg has welcomed approval of the EU's Lisbon Treaty by a large majority of the Swedish Parliament yesterday.
"The Swedish vote is a highly positive signal in the run-up to the European Council in December, on which occasion a common way forward needs to be defined to enable the reform process to be completed, not least in light of the delicate international economic situation.
"Continued progress along the path of integration is essential to enable Europe both to operate effectively and cohesively on the international stage, thanks to the renewed impetus given to its institutions, and to provide incisive and authoritative responses to the expectations of the citizens of the Union," Dr Borg said in a statement.
The treaty was unanimously approved by the Maltese Parliament earlier this year.

For those who did not sign back when Ireland's rejection was being ignored by the EU, here is a petition that is still running to encourage the EU to declare the treaty dead and, if needsbe, begin working on a new one.

@ IGalea. I am very happy to see people who finally are seeing, what Europe will become in the near future.
I voted yesin the referendum and still believe that it is our best choice.
But I did not vote to pass further powers to brussels.
What we will need is Turkey in the EU apart from other east European countries who will join, so we collapse ever faster then we are doing.

It is easier to bully a few members of parliament than to bully a whole population.
This pseudo constitution was rejected wherever it was subjected to popular vote. The European Soviet Union can go on ramming opressive legislation down its citizens' throats but in the end there will be the inevitable mass puke.
Not everyone can be bought with cushy Eurocratic jobs. Some people do have principles and they are prepared to uphold them.

Everywhere the treaty was approved by arrogant quisling politicians who have sold their very soul to the eu petty dictators and who have ignored their people because they know their people will never approve the treaty.
Have a look at http://euobserver.com/9/27158 and see what the eu is projected to look like in 15 years time.
"EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - By 2025, the European Union will be a "hobbled giant" crippled by internal bickering and a eurosceptic citizenry. Eastern European organised crime could dominate one or more member state governments, and the bloc will likely be kowtowing to Moscow after having failed at all attempts to wean itself from Russian energy supplies.
The EU will have completed its institutional reforms, but will remain weak on the world stage, warns the NIC
This is the rosy view for Europe's future mapped out by the United States National Intelligence Council (NIC), Washington's main intelligence body...."Crime could be the gravest threat inside Europe as Eurasian transnational organisations - flush from involvement in energy and mineral concerns - become more powerful and broaden their scope."
Do you want Malta to remain a member of such an (dis)organization?

@a azzopardi. Since there was no 'no votes' from the opposition it was certainly unanimously approved irrespective of whether there were members absent from the House or not. That's how Parliamentary Democracy works.

For the record, the resolution on the Lisbon Treaty was adopted by the House of Representatives without a division being called.
One cannot therefore speak of the Treaty having been ''unanimously approved'' since there was no vote, and many Members were absent,
