Two men were jailed for a total of 36 months after admitting to stealing over €2,239 from two different residences.
They were charged and sentenced separately.
Joseph Scerri, 39, pleaded guilty to stealing the cash from a residence in St Paul's Bay in February of last year. Magistrate Saviour Demicoli jailed him after taking into consideration his criminal record, the fact that he had relapsed but also that he admitted to the charges in an early stage of the proceedings.
Leslie Fenech, 32, also admitted to stealing the same amount of cash from a house in Marsascala and relapsing. The victim had testified that he had since forgiven the accused, who also told the court that he was sorry for his actions and would return the stolen money within 30 days.
After having considered that Mr Fenech had been forgiven and would be returning the money, Dr Demicoli jailed him for 18 months.
Police Inspectors Daniel Zammit and Fabian Fleri prosecuted.
