MUT postpones TUC meeting
The Malta Union of Teachers is postponing its December 5 meeting to discuss the setting up of a Trade Union Council . The meeting, grouping all unions interested in the proposal, will be held on January 16.
In a press conference this afternoon, union president John Bencini referred to a statement by the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions yesterday which criticised the MUT of not attending a meeting called to discuss the latter’s TUC proposal.
The MUT said it had given the CMTU its reasons for not attending the meeting but the CMTU failed to give these reasons to the media.
One of the reasons given was that it felt that a comment by the president of the CMTU had prejudiced the December 5 meeting.
The MUT said it was extending its invitation to all those who put workers’ interests first and foremost to attend the January 16 meeting.

If one also has a look at the CMTU you would realise that its archaic regulations prevent certain unions from joining. Ask about that ...You'll be surprised!
As for the setting up of a proper TUc....it seems that, after all the optimism, certain old hands are suddenly very wary and doing their best to put spokes in wheels...and no, it isn't the GWU....I wonder whats happening behind closed doors in the CMTU!
One last thing, one INVITES, not REQUESTS.....
