Immigration discussed in Sweden
The influx of irregular migration faced by Malta was raised during a meeting in Stockholm between Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and the Chargé D'Affaires of the Maltese Embassy in Copenhagen Paul Radmilli. While appealing for Swedish assistance, Mr Radmilli said that, this year, the percentage of arrivals in relation to the Maltese population would be equivalent to 60,000 if the same percentage were to be applied to the Swedish population.
He hoped the issue would form part of the Swedish EU Presidency agenda in the second half of next year.

@ d borg: NOBODY has volunteered. Maybe we can get Michelle Obama to expose the racist attitudes of the EU governments. They discriminate against the Maltese and the illegals. See they want to pass laws so they can call us racists and silence us.. While we are trying to get the illegals freedom of movement within the EU. Which will help the Maltese and the illegals. This is why the Maltese might have to join the illegals to get anything done on this issue. Most Maltese are scared to protest on this issue. Hopefully after Jan 20th 2009. The Africans will protest on this issue.

Only those who continuously bury their head in the sand praised the voluntary burden sharing agreement as a very great victory for Malta and Dr CMB. As usual, time has shown that it is the greatest teacher.

We're always discussing but we never see concrete action. Has anyone volunteered yet to take some of the illegal immigrants?

Fredrick Reinfeldt if you really mean it, that you want to help. You would take a plane full NOW.
@Igalea: The voluntary burden sharing was a sham. No volunteers and government got scammed again.

What is it with our appointed officials and this newspaper? Illegal immigration is just that: illegal immigration and not "irregular". Or was the Charge` D'Affaires attempting to decriminalise illegal immigrants to render a semblance of respectability, should the Swedes decide to 'share the burden'?

How's the voluntary burden sharing working out?
