GWU backs MUMN industrial action

The GWU said this afternoon that it sympathised with the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) which, it said, had had to order industrial action because talks had failed.

The GWU said it believed that solutions were best sought around a table, but no union could wait for ever when it found doors closed.

The government needed to understand that social dialogue was crucial for solutions to be achieved. Unfortunately, however, it was not setting an example as a model employer and was repeatedly taking decisions without proper talks with the trade unions.

"While the GWU continues to hold that patients come first, the workers' rights should always be upheld in the best manner possible," the GWU said.
