GWU backs MUMN industrial action

The GWU said this afternoon that it sympathised with the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) which, it said, had had to order industrial action because talks had failed.

The GWU said it believed that solutions were best sought around a table, but no union could wait for ever when it found doors closed.

The government needed to understand that social dialogue was crucial for solutions to be achieved. Unfortunately, however, it was not setting an example as a model employer and was repeatedly taking decisions without proper talks with the trade unions.

"While the GWU continues to hold that patients come first, the workers' rights should always be upheld in the best manner possible," the GWU said.

As for Dalli's quotes....Which Government official was responsible for accepting illegal proposals?

We, the general public deserve to know!

G mangion...Blue eyes are useless when you can't see......

You write:

'They the gwu, ARE NOT TRUSTED BY ANY OTHER UNION AT ALL'

How one can say that after the GWU managed to unite more than twenty unions for its protest march baffles me! Obviously the Unions concerned don't agree with you.

As for the right to strike under a PN Government, if you have a closer look at history, you would note that a prominent EX Pn Minister, once stressed that it was important to make it illegal for one to strike...

But then again, your short sightedness might also apply to history books.

jekk il gvern ma jzommx kelmtu jaghmlu sewwa l unions li jirrikorru ghal azzjonijiet.

How patethic these bloggers......so now a union cannot back another...or is this is because the union happened to be the GWU.

Breaking News:
Just heard Minister Dalli say that he cannot implement parts of the agreement reached with MUMNbecause they are illegel.

Excuse me , but who drafted the agreement and why we discover now that items agreed are illegel.

@G. Mangion
You're so right! Who wouldn't? About time these people are brought to their senses.

@ C.Camilleri - The government can never cut their pay, what the government MUST do, in the interest of the nurses and patients, is to increase the nursing staff.

@ G. Mangion - You may be right that GWU is backing other unions. But did you notice that GWU is BACKING OTHER UNIONS ?? Did you notice that almost all unions are complaining lately, about one thing or another? Is it possible that you see everything in blue?
G.Mangion (on 19/11/08)
The gwu, Wil back everbody !! BASTA KONTRA IL -GVERN !!!
I Guess the gwu, will even back, the Devils in hell, BASTA KONTRA IL - P.N FIL GVERN .
C.Camilleri (on 19/11/08)
The GWU backs MUMN industrial action against the Nationalist Govt. What a surprise! I hope that the Unions will not cry wolf if the Govt decides as it should for a cut in the workers' pay.
