A light aircraft veered off the runway at Malta International Airport, ending up on the grass and forcing the airport to close for an hour yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene but no one on the private, four-seat, single-engine aircraft was injured, and neither was it damaged. The US-registered, Maltese-owned Socata TB20 Trinidad taxied back to the apron later. Aircraft, including a cargo plane, were holding pattern in the air for about an hour until they got clearance to land, according to a plane spotter.
