Man accused of corrupting two boys
Dennis Bennett, 65, of Kirkop was this morning accused of corrupting two boys for several years before 1996.
He was also accused of offending public morals and holding the boys against their will.
Mr Bennett was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €3,000 after the court heard how he has already been given police bail. The prosecution said he had fully cooperated with the police.
In a separate case, Rio Micallef, 25 of Marsa, David Tabone, 24 of Bahar ic-Caghaq and Darren James Vella, 18 of Birkirkara pleaded not guilty to having conspiring to traffic ecstasy pills last September.
Rio Micallef on his own was accused of possession of the drug and relapsing. David Tabone was accused of possession of ecstasy and cocaine and Darren James Vella was accused of violating the conditions of a previous release.
The prosecution said that the men were found in possession of 2,000 Ecstasy pills.
The men were refused bail.

George Casha: Exactly my feelings. In Malta like most civilised countries we have the concept of the presumption of innocence. In the eyes of the law the man in question is innocent. Why punish him and the persons around him now, making their life hell by publishing his name in the newspaper? God only knows how long his court case will take.
What is more pertinent and what the newspaper fails to publish is the age of the minors when the alleged incidents occurred. To my mind it makes a huge difference between their being 10 year olds or 17 1/2 year olds. Yes there are cases of 'boys' and 'girls' of 18 years (minus a few weeks) who someone claims have been 'corrupted', 'defiled' and what have you.

So now we have names of alleged sex offenders published too. I do not agree with making public the names of accused persons until they are proven guilty, as was the case of the Priest a few weeks back. Same goes for alleged victims. Why do we always have to use one weight and two measures in everything?
