England manager Fabio Capello last night named a 23-man squad for next Wednesday's friendly against Germany in Berlin.

Twenty-year-old Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne is a surprise inclusion in Capello's squad. Mancienne is yet to play a game for the Blues but his performances on loan for Wolves and for England's U-21 team have persuaded Capello to draft him into the senior group for the first time.

Fellow under-21 players Joe Hart and Gabriel Agbonlahor are also on Capello's list as is John Terry even though the England skipper is due to have a scan on a foot injury.

Goalkeepers: James (Portsmouth), Carson (West Brom), Hart (Man. City).

Defenders: Bridge (Chelsea), Johnson (Portsmouth), Upson (West Ham), Terry (Chelsea), Davies (Aston Villa), Lescott (Everton), Mancienne (Chelsea), Richards (Manchester City).

Midfielders: Gerrard (Liverpool), Barry (Aston Villa), Carrick (Manchester United), Lampard (Chelsea), Downing (Middlesbrough), Young (Aston Villa), Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Walcott (Arsenal).

Forwards: Defoe (Portsmouth), Bent (Tottenham), Crouch (Portsmouth), Agbonlahor (Aston Villa).
