Ex-general manager resigns from Go

Joe Azzopardi, Go's chief transformation officer and head of legal and regulatory affairs, resigned on October 15. His connection with Telemalta Corporation, later Maltacom plc and now GO plc, spans 28 years, during which he has occupied other management positions including chief accountant, general manager, group chief operations officer and group chief executive officer.

An accountant by profession and a recently certified project management professional (PMP), Mr Azzopardi, 48, was well-known in the local industry as the executive head of the largest telecommunications company on the island. He has overseen the transition of company and industry through liberalisation and the introduction of regulation into today's competitive environment.

Mr Azzopardi spearheaded two privatisations in 1998 and 2006, as well as corporate restructuring which has led to the introduction of new ventures such as Go Mobile, Datatsream and Dial It Call Centre, and several tariff rebalancing exercises.

Mr Azzopardi intends to operate as a roving telecommunications consultant and is interested in pursuing training and development initiatives in change management and project management. He recently set up Go's Transformation Office and its change management programmes.
