A 54-year-old man was reported for stealing from his parents by his devastated octogenarian father and brothers.

Reno Grech, also known as Nazzareno, was charged with the crime yesterday.

He pleaded not guilty to stealing cash and threatening to use violence against his parents, and was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000.

Lawyer Anna Mallia, appearing in parte civile for the father, objected to the bail, pointing out that the man still lives with his father. She said her client had called her up in tears about the situation and pointed out that the mother had died since the incidents which led to his son being charged.

But defence lawyer José Herrera said his client has another house where he could stay for the duration of the trial.

Taking this into consideration, Magistrate Antonio Mizzi granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000 on condition that he does not go to Żabbar or approach his father.
